Featherline Electric Boats
Currently under way in Drachten, Northern Holland is the start of an exclusive range of electric boats. Designed for the extensive network of canals in Europe, and is based on the 'Back Decker' style of traditional Dutch launch. However the hull is a very efficient displacement trimaran form, to give low wake as well as stability and room to the boat. The boats will be constructed in lightweight foam sandwich, but will feature teak decks.
First to be built will be the Featherline 5.8m which will have a double berth and enclosed head below. Designed to be light and easily trailered, as well as storing neatly in a car garage over winter. Charging can be done from shore power, or with the addition of a wind turbine generator, or optional hard top with solar panels on it. The standard battery arrangement will allow six hours motoring at five knots.
Further information should be available soon at www.featherline.nl
For the future the Featherline 8.4m will be developed, featuring a galley and saloon below.
Also proposed is a hybrid Diesel electric 10.1m version of the Featherline range. Solar panels will charge up the battery bank while the boat awaiting use. For canal speeds, so the crew can enjoy near silent operation, an electric engine will power the boat. But if extra range or power are required, a diesel generator will supplement electrical needs.
Comfortable accommodation for family or charter guests is below. |
