This design
was produced in response to the New Zealand Multihull Yacht
Club's Formula 28 rule. It is designed as a performance boat,
with three beams and trampoline between the hulls. The cockpits
in the hulls contain the sailing controls, while the halyards
are left on the rotating, single spreader mast. A heavily
roached mainsail will be matched with a variety of headsails,
either overlapping or not. Masthead gennakers and 3/4 screachers
are an option from the prodder.
The hulls
are a development of other TC Designs, and also feature a
spray rail and shallow forefoot to help with dynamic lift
at speed. The rounded decks are good for aerodynamics and
shedding waves.
The interior
will feature four berths, and a basic galley in one hull.
A sealable main hatch will keep the interior watertight.
The centre
girder not only houses the outboard, but extend forward to
support the forestay and roller furler screacher.
For other
builders, cedar or foam cores can be used, with light E-glass,
or even kevlar or carbon skins. The hulls are built in half,
in vertically split female frames on their sides. This gives
very good access to the hull interior, before joining the
halves together. Nearly all of the TC design hulls are built
in foam this way, and the method has been most successful.
